The Ultimate Baby Registry Checklist
Creating a baby registry can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time parents – at least it did for me! With so many products and brands to choose from, it’s hard to know what you truly need versus what’s just nice to have (and what is just good marketing). As a mom, I’ve learned what items are essential and which ones make life a little easier.
Here’s my ultimate baby registry checklist to help you feel confident and prepared for your newest family members arrival:
Nursery Essentials
Crib or Bassinet: Choose one that meets safety standards and fits your space.
Crib Mattress: Look for a firm, breathable mattress.
Bedding: Register for at least two fitted crib sheets and a waterproof mattress protector.
Changing Table or Pad: A dedicated space for diaper changes is a lifesaver.
Storage Solutions: Include bins, baskets, or a dresser for baby’s clothes, diapers, and toys.
Baby Monitor: Be conscious if you want a WiFi vs. non- WiFi model.
Sound Machine: This will become your best friend.
Feeding Essentials
Bottles and Nipples: Register for a few different sizes and types to see what your baby prefers.
Bottle Sterilizer: A quick and easy way to keep bottles clean.
Breast Pump: If you’re breastfeeding, a pump is a must and usually covered by insurance.
Nursing Pillow: Provides support and comfort during feedings.
Burp Cloths: Stock up—you’ll use these all the time.
High Chair: While you won’t need it immediately, it’s a great registry item.
Diapering Essentials
Diapers: Add a variety of sizes—babies grow fast!
Wipes: Go for gentle, hypoallergenic options.
Diaper Bag: Choose one with plenty of compartments.
Diaper Pail: Keeps odors under control.
Clothing Essentials
Onesies and Bodysuits: Register for a mix of newborn and 0-3 month sizes.
Pajamas: Look for options with zippers or magnets for easy nighttime changes.
Swaddles: Velcro or zip-up swaddles are game-changers. Get a few different styles - every baby (and their sleep preferences) are different!
Mittens: Keep those tiny hands from scratching their face.
Hats: Protect your baby from the sun or cold.
Bath Time Essentials
Baby Bathtub: A safe and comfortable place for bath time.
Hooded Towels: Soft and absorbent for drying off your baby.
Baby Wash and Shampoo: Opt for gentle, tear-free formulas.
Washcloths: Perfect for sensitive skin.
Travel Essentials
Car Seat: A non-negotiable item; make sure it’s approved for your baby’s age and weight.
Stroller: Choose one that fits your lifestyle, whether it’s a travel system, jogger, or lightweight option.
Baby Carrier or Wrap: Great for keeping your hands free while holding your baby close.
Pack ‘n Play: Ideal for travel or safe playtime at home.
Health and Safety Essentials
Thermometer: A digital thermometer is a must.
Baby Nail Clippers: Tiny nails need extra care.
First Aid Kit: Include basics like saline drops and a nasal aspirator.
Teething Toys: Soothing options for when those first teeth start to pop through.
Toys and Entertainment
Play Mat: Stimulates your baby’s development during tummy time.
Soft Toys and Rattles: Great for engaging your little one.
Books: Start building a library of board books to read together.
This checklist covers all the essentials while leaving room for some fun and nice-to-have items, too. By focusing on quality over quantity, you’ll avoid unnecessary clutter and feel confident that you have everything you need. The key is to prioritize items that fit your lifestyle and make life as a new parent easier.
