Mountain Magic: Our Wedding Welcome Party & Surprise Announcement

When I first started planning our wedding, I knew I wanted to host our welcome party in the mountains. Since we were hosting the reception in the main hall of The Broadmoor, it only made sense to give our guests the full Colorado experience. They traveled all this way to celebrate with us, so I wanted them to feel like they got the full mountain experience. Plus, for the sake of convenience, we decided to keep the venue for both the rehearsal dinner and the welcome party the same. That way, after the rehearsal dinner, the rest of our wedding guests could join us at the Mountain Clubhouse to keep the party going.

We had a string group playing music and greeted our guests with wine and—

Easy, right? Wrong.

A few months before the wedding, we found out that I was pregnant! That left us with two options: A) Keep it a secret and surprise everyone post-wedding (imagine how weird that would have been? Hahaha), or B) Make it a huge part of the weekend.

Obviously, we chose option B.

We decided to announce to everyone a few weeks prior that we would be doing our gender reveal at our welcome party. And just like that, we found ourselves surrounded by 189 of our closest friends and family in one of our favorite places in the world, waiting for the big moment.

This was, without a doubt, the most special part of the weekend. The love and support we felt in that moment was overwhelming in the best way possible. I don’t think anything will ever top it.

Honestly, I could’ve ended the weekend right then and there (because let’s be real, I was 20 weeks pregnant and exhausted lol). But we still had the BIG day ahead!

Next week, I’ll be sharing all the details of our wedding day—stay tuned!
